The Singapore Kadayanallur Muslim League (SKML) came into existence in August 1941, registering as a social welfare organization with a noble purpose. Its aim was to serve the South Indian Muslim diaspora, primarily originating from the modest town of Kadayanallur in Tirunelveli district, located in the southern part of India. Drawn by the allure of opportunities, a multitude of Tamil-speaking Muslims from South India sought their fortunes in the promising lands of Malaya, eventually finding their new homes in Penang and Singapore. Since then, this small yet remarkable community has played a pivotal role in the nation-building efforts of Singapore, leaving their indelible mark across various spheres, including education, arts, media, journalism, culinary arts, and finance.
Today, SKML aspires to become the quintessential destination for Singapore's Indian Muslim community, catering to their diverse needs. It seeks to foster a harmonious blend of our unique Indian Muslim heritage with the essence of Singapore's multicultural fabric. Through our endeavors, we aim to cultivate a distinct Singaporean Muslim identity that not only thrives but also remains dedicated to serving and uplifting our community.
